June 5, 2025
Case #: 2024-006179
Derrell Scott, who shot two people at the Loaded Barrel Tavern in 2024, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.
On Wednesday, Scott, 54, pleaded no contest to two counts of attempted murder in the second degree and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Following his prison sentence, he will be on probation for 10 years.
On July 26, 2024, Bradenton police officers responded to reports of a shooting inside the Loaded Barrel Tavern, located at 450 12th St W, and found a woman with a gunshot wound to her leg. Officers also learned another victim, a man with a gunshot wound to his torso, was taken to the hospital.
Witnesses reported that an argument had occurred between the suspect and the male victim. The suspect left the Loaded Barrel and returned minutes later, armed with a gun. The suspect then fired multiple rounds at the male victim. The female victim was a bystander.
Multiple witnesses inside the Loaded Barrel described the shooter. Within minutes, officers obtained CCTV footage from several City of Bradenton cameras that captured the shooter leaving the tavern and driving away in a maroon SUV. Detectives identified the suspect as Derrell Scott and determined that he had left the Bradenton area following the shooting.
Detectives tracked Scott to Osceola County. He was taken into custody on July 29, 2024, with the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) in Fort Myers, the FDLE Orlando Fugitive Task Force, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Felony Squad, and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team.
