5.8KG of Fentanyl-laced Cocaine seized following traffic stop

UPDATE (October 16, 2024): Julio DeLeon (38, Brownsville, TX) has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. Deleon faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 5 years, up to 40 years, in federal prison.

A traffic stop resulted in the seizure of nearly six kilograms of Fentanyl-laced Cocaine on Thursday.

A Bradenton Police officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with an unassigned license plate. The driver, later identified as Roberto Verdugo Luna, attempted to drive away but stopped. A passenger, Julio Cesar DeLeon, ran from officers but was apprehended.

Narcotics K9 Blue completed a walk-around on the vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics. A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of 5.8 kilos of Cocaine laced with Fentanyl and $2,576 in cash.

Luna, 47, is charged with trafficking in Cocaine/Fentanyl and driving with a suspended license. DeLeon, 38, is charged with trafficking in Cocaine/Fentanyl and resisting without violence.
