October 27, 2022 - The Bradenton Police Department is partnering with HCA Florida Blake Hospital in the annual “Crush the Crisis” national opioid takeback day on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

From 9 a.m. until Noon, Bradenton Police officers will be collecting expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs at HCA Florida Blake Hospital, located at 2020 59th Street West.

This is a drive-through, drop-off location for tablets, capsules and patches of Hydrocodone (Norco, Lortab, Vicodin), Oxycodone (Oxycontin, Percocet), Tramadol (Ultram), Codeine, Fentanyl (Duragesic), Morphine, Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) and Oxymorphone (Opana). Vape cartridges (without batteries) and pet medications also will be accepted. Liquid medications, needles, syringes, or lancets will not be accepted.

“Crush the Crisis” helps raise awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse and the importance of safe and proper disposal of unused or expired medications. It coincides with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and invites the community to safely dispose of unused or expired medication before it may be obtained and misused. During the last National Prescription Drug Take Back Day in April 2022, the DEA collected 360 tons (721,093 lbs.) of expired, unwanted, and unused prescription medications nationwide.

The Bradenton Police Department also participates in Operation Medicine Cabinet, and offers a drop-off site in our lobby for expired, unused and unwanted medications. The following items can be accepted:

  • Medications from individuals

  • Controlled substances (e.g. hydrocodone, fentanyl patches, alprazolam, Adderall)

  • Other non-liquid prescriptions (e.g. antibiotics, pharmaceutical samples, ointments)

  • Vitamins (non-liquid)

  • Inhalers

  • EpiPens (unopened)
