CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR
Department: Bradenton Police Department
Salary Range: Minimum: $19.55/hour Maximum: $29.33/hour
Schedule: This position may work irregular shifts, day or night, weekday or weekend and requires scheduled/unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays and/or immediate response to emergency conditions.

General Purpose of the Crime Scene Investigator: Provide impartial scientific evidence for use in courts of law to support the prosecution or defense in criminal and civil investigations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Photograph or video crime scenes to provide a permanent record of the scene and evidence collected.
Collect, develop, and preserve forensic evidence at crime scenes.
Process, lift, and photograph fingerprints.
Keep records and prepare reports detailing findings, investigative methods, and laboratory techniques.
Maintain hours of duty established by the Division Commander of the Detective Division, but shall be available for duty at all times in case of a major crime or traffic crash that needs processing.
Properly operate and maintain all equipment and vehicles assigned to this Section.
Responsible for the identification of persons through technical processes.
Receive property coming into care and see that it is properly labeled and submitted to the Property Officer.
Responsible for all laboratory services, including packaging evidence to be transported to the State Laboratory, F.B.I. Laboratory, etc.
Fingerprint and photograph City license applicants and any other applicants, as required by ordinance or Department policy.
Perform all necessary photographic work for the Police Department.
This position spends at least 65% of the time performing duties involving collection, examination, preservation, documentation, preparation, or analysis of human tissues or human fluids or physical evidence having potential biological, chemical, or radiological hazard or contamination, or use chemicals, processes, or materials that may have carcinogenic or health-damaging properties in the analysis of such evidence.
Equipment Used: Computer, camera, alternative light source, video knowledge, super glue fuming.
Education and Experience Required:
Associate’s Degree in Crime Scene Technology required.
Experience preferred in the Law Enforcement field.
Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
Required Skills and Physical Abilities:
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Ability to communicate information and ideas, both verbally and in writing.
Frequent bending, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking.
Occasional squatting, bending, standing, walking, kneeling, and climbing.
Heavy physical exertion on demand during the physical lifting and storing of evidence.
Maximum lifting 50+ pounds occasionally, one to five pounds frequently.
Environmental Conditions: Inside and outside work as directed by the crime scene (weather variables); protective clothing may be worn when necessary.
